Delete your account
You can delete your why.email account yourself, from the web or from Why Mail. It is locked straight away and deleted thirty days later, so a mistake, or someone else using your session, can still be undone.
[01]
Where to do it
- On the web: sign in at inbox.why.email, open Settings → Account, and choose Delete your account.
- On iPhone or Android: in Why Mail, tap your picture, then Accounts, then Delete followed by your address.
You’ll be asked for your password, and for the code from your authenticator app if you use one.
[02]
What happens
- The account is locked at once. You’re signed out of the web, Why Mail and mail apps on every device, and AI connections in Porter are switched off.
- Mail sent to you keeps arriving during the thirty days, so nothing is lost if you change your mind.
- After thirty days the account is deleted: its mail, contacts, calendar, documents and spreadsheets, files, Porter connections and Townsquare devices and keys. Copies in backups expire on their own schedule after that.

Changing your mind
Sign in with your password before the thirty days are up and the account is yours again, exactly as you left it. Apps you had connected to Porter stay switched off until you turn them back on.

Business accounts
- A member’s mailbox belongs to their organization, which removes it: ask one of its administrators.
- An owner transfers the organization to another member first. If you’re its only person, deleting your account deletes the organization too, with its domains and its billing.

If you can't sign in
Write to support@why.emailfrom the recovery address on the account and we’ll delete it for you. A developer account for the email API is separate from a mailbox; write to the same address to have one deleted. What we hold and why is in the privacy policy.
